Susan Ashby Arts
About Susan Ashby:
After retiring from corporate life, I wanted to go back to doing what I loved as a child: art. I started with collage as I loved the special papers that are available. I then became interested in mosaics. I took several classes at the Institute of Mosaic Art in Berkeley and did many practice pieces on my own to learn techniques. I have been doing mosaics for about 4 years.
I now mostly use Italian Smalti glass and hand cut each small piece to fit where I want. These works are not grouted. The animals and some of the other items are framed. Some of the Other Mosaics are done with vitreous glass, a less expensive flat glass. These are also not grouted and are not framed.
I started the animal series in 2016 and I love them, as do my family and friends. It is an endless subject so I have a lot more planned. On the right, is the eagle in progress - you can see the tools I use and yes, lots of tiny pieces of glass.
I hope you enjoy my art and if you wish to contact me for any reason, please go to the Contact tab for information.
